Yes, in France the annual servicing of a gas, oil, wood or multi-fuel boiler (output of 4 to 400 kW) is compulsory for every occupant: owner or tenant. It is required by Decree No. 2009-649.

At each visit, your heating engineer gives you a certificate to keep for 2 years, which is essential for your insurer in the event of a claim.

To install an air-to-water heat pump in 2026, you can combine 4 grants:

• MaPrimeRénov': up to €5,000 depending on your income
• CEE 'Coup de pouce chauffage' bonus: up to €4,000
• Éco-PTZ: interest-free loan of up to €30,000
• 5.5% VAT on supply and installation

A heat pump costing €13,000 could therefore leave you with less than €4,000 to pay depending on your situation.

Air-to-air heat pump (reversible air conditioning): heats and cools the air directly via indoor units (split). Does not produce domestic hot water. Not eligible for MaPrimeRénov'.

Air-to-water heat pump: replaces a boiler. Heats the water in your heating circuit (radiators, underfloor heating) and produces domestic hot water. More expensive to install but eligible for all the grants (MaPrimeRénov', CEE, éco-PTZ).

RGE stands for « Reconnu Garant de l'Environnement » (Recognised Environmental Guarantor). It is a qualification awarded by Qualibat or Qualit'EnR to tradespeople trained in high-energy-performance equipment.

Using an RGE tradesperson is COMPULSORY to qualify for all public grants: MaPrimeRénov', CEE, éco-PTZ, 5.5% VAT.

Installing an air-to-water heat pump to replace a boiler typically takes 2 to 3 days:

• Day 1: removing the old boiler, fitting the hydraulic module and the outdoor unit, running the refrigerant line
• Day 2: hydraulic and electrical connections, commissioning and handover explanations

For a new installation with a new circuit, allow 3 to 5 days.

Lead time between signing the quote and installation: 4 to 8 weeks depending on the season and the availability of the equipment.

Yes, annual servicing of a heat pump is ESSENTIAL every year.

It is a condition imposed by manufacturers: without annual servicing carried out by a certified professional, the manufacturer's warranty is no longer maintained.

Above 12 kW, an annual refrigerant leak-tightness check by a technician certified in refrigerant handling is also compulsory (Decree 2015-1790).
